A Message from Minutes Before Six

Dear Readers,

The Texas Department of Criminal Justice has introduced a new rule in its Offender Orientation Handbook stating that “offenders are prohibited from maintaining active social media accounts for the purposes of soliciting, updating, or engaging others, through a third party or otherwise.”

Pending legal clarification of the new Texas Department of Criminal Justice offender rule #4, regarding the use of social media in support of prisoners, writing and artwork from Texas prisoners will not be accessible on Minutes Before Six. Thank you for sharing with your networks and for your understanding.

Sincerely,

The Minutes Before Six Team

I to am sickened by this latest attempt by the TDCJ to silence those serving time in Texas. After reading many of the blog posts, I feel that I have grown as an individual. My eyes and heart have been opened to the soul of these men and women and I thank them for their honest writings..

I too have read the rule as written by TDCJ and it does not define social media, nor does it define "engaging." Until TDCJ defines these terms for us, we won't know whether or how the rule applies to our project. Thanks for your support and your patience while we wait for clarification.

I have a question. I read the rule and it says specifially social media like facebook, twitter and instagram. Blog posts are still permitted as I have read. Can somebody verify that? Doesn´t this website rank as blog? It´s really sad to see all the old posts vanished

I am totally sickened by this. One more way in which to muzzle the incarcerated. There was a time when I thought that there was justice in the Justice system. I no longer believe that.

thank you for caring for the inmates that they do not come into any trouble just because they are sending their written words and art works!
You do a great job and to the rule changing I would say … the last word is not spoken!
    Greetings from Anja / Germany.

Oh my goodness. That could be a serious problem for MB6, not to mention all the prisoners
IN TDCJ. Let's hope for a good outcome.

Does that mean they are trying to stifle our only access to what goes on in the prison system?
    Shame on you Texas!

That remains to be seen, pending clarification of the new rule.
