My name is Carlos Rebollo. At the age of 15 I was sentenced to 45 years in the state of Connecticut. I served a total of 24 years. During my incarceration, I earned an associate’s degree in psychology, became a student of Yale University and of the University of New Haven. I did interviews over the radio about my experiences in prison and the unprofessional practices of the Department of Corrections. Those interviews led to HBO contacting me and doing a documentary on my life. I was released and am now a full-time student at the University of New Haven, pursuing a bachelor’s degree in multi-platform journalism. I have been telling my story on podcasts and other platforms and am on a mission to reform our criminal justice systems. Writing has opened up a world of insight and healing, and I want to share it with the world.
