April Towery is an award-winning journalist who has written and edited for several daily and weekly newspapers in Georgia and Texas, including The Huntsville Item and The Bryan-College Station Eagle. She was incarcerated in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice from June 2020 through January 2022. Towery currently serves as the Dallas City Hall reporter and assistant editor for a real estate newsletter in North Texas. She is a member of Lioness Justice Impacted Women’s Alliance and the Statewide Leadership Council, which advocate for incarcerated people in Texas. She is passionate about working with women in recovery from alcohol addiction. Her sobriety date is March 30, 2019.
