Don’t Fall
By Bonnie Teafatiller
Sometimes I question reality, like why
Does there have to be lessons on
Brutality
And do bright minds and adolescents have to be killed
For their nationality
A lifetime of oppression and being black
Is still a technicality
A slight twitch or a lean back, left dead
For lack of rationality
There’s a white line in place of
Facts and actuality
In compliance, respects intact
To serve and protect its all an act.
Cop saw a gun it was night
Flatline
Their alliance is tight
No need to indict, that crime
“His skin wasn’t white” he was a bad guy they lie
And they strike
Giving black eyes, all the time they’re right
When it’s a black guy
One of theirs die it’s such a sad time
They cry and they cry
 Give hugs to his wife
And cover their badge with a black line
Rodney King, Tamar Rice they didn’t apologize
Or bat an eye
To bleed and to fight for justice and rights
For black to be a crime, a slave of past times
The need to survive, leads to the hustling life
They flow in the drugs to see what happens to the blind
The dope fiend, stereotype, just a disguise
Why else would they legalize pipes and wine
A societal prototype to influence the wise
To trust in the trap and love the grind
They seed strife to fluid their ties with trapping the mind
But
Indeed we rise and devise their plan
Of demise
Take a stand this is the time

I’m Puerto Rican, Haitian, and German. 32 years young. I am currently serving a 25 year sentence for being in the wrong place with the wrong people. I have been incarcerated for 6 years. I don’t believe that I will be in prison that long, due to misconduct and laws changing. I love to read and write, I am currently writing a book about my life. I have lived a very hard life and and I am trying to turn people away from that lifestyle. I love music and I am very poetic. I believe in helping people and staying positive. I hope that what I have to say helps somebody somewhere.
