Misrepresent
By Daniel Porter

Freedom! Where do I fit in the constitutional script!
How can I stand by guarantees with confidence?
Why has my happiness always been a pursuit?
When will I secure the blessings of liberty for myself and posterity?
Am I a part of this perfect union?
Am I assured domestic tranquility?
Can you see how the general welfare was promoted to me?
I was scraps that were meant to be disposed
I had to defecate on a steel hole meant to be a commode
I’m more than three fifth of a man, I’m a man, I’m more
Thank a dollar amount, I’m not guilty, I’m innocent!
But who dare to believe me when you have the 13th Amendment

Prevail and Excel
By Daniel Porter

I shall prevail and excel
Even when everyone left and it was me against the world
I kept my feelings to the vest
I still prevail and excelled
When my inner light got dimmer then the dark got darker
Seem like the air got thinner and my conditions got harsher
I shall prevail and excel
When the ice flood my veins and my heart went hollow
I overcame growing pains exemplified patience that anyone could follow
I still prevail and excelled
When hopelessness was a reality and depression a formality
I remembered what was asked of me growing up would be tragedy
I shall prevail and excel
When fear stare me in the eyes and smell that I’m scared
I’ll stand on what I know that fear is false evidence appearing real
I shall, I will, I must…prevail and excel!!!
