I’m Abel Castillo, 32 years old, from California, with a passion for writing. I’ve been incarcerated for 9 years now navigating the prison system, which in a way has inspired me to document and share my travels, experiences, and emotions, through the power of the word and pen.
Currently, I am attending the college of Cerro Coso in motion towards aiming to get an A.A. in psychology. In my spare time I like to read books. Anything from financial literacy to personal growth, histories, biographies and business to leadership. Furthermore, the pen and paper is my form of therapy and a critical component within my healing process. The power of the word is what has helped me survive and overcome many adversities and obstacles I have faced throughout my life especially while doing time.
I come from a long line of trauma and gang violence which I no longer glorify or adhere to. Though at times I may have slow days, through writing I am able to conquer the demons and help transform past trauma into triumph in hopes to inspire someone out there to cultivate creativity by writing and know that the impossible is possible.
