Your Eyes
By Franklin Davis
When I look into your eyes
I can see into the future
then my heart skips a beat an I can’t move
I have been hypnotized
Your eyes are more powerful that you realize
You can rearrange the stars with a blink of the eye
Cause volcanoes to erupt when you cry
I will comb the desert for the perfect grain of sand
Swim to the bottom of the ocean in search for dry land
I will cool the surface of the sun as it rise
If I can once again look in your eyes
For The Pain I Caused
By Franklin Davis
I am writing this hoping your eyes would one day see this. That one
day you will stumble across this while I’m still here. If not, then
after I’m gone. After hearing about George Floyd I cried. It wasn’t
just because of how he died. But because I saw myself in George and in
the police officer. Now Kamala Harris could be out first black female
vice president. I thought of your daughter and mines. I knew I could
no longer hold onto what I need to say to you. I tell people that
“Black Lives Matter” but for a brief moment it didn’t matter to me.
Nothing did. I know fear as we all do. I took my anger and created fear
In the eyes where only happiness should have existed. I contributed to
the end of a young black promising life. One that should have had the
opportunity to shine as bright as it wanted to. I know no one leaves
this world unscathed. It’s a part of life as is death. But no one
deserves to die from the actions of another. I hope my words can lift
some of the grief and pain that I caused you. I am truly sorry.
