Lockdoor
By Joshua McGriff
Lockdoor, metal chains and racist oppressors
We fighting the same war as our ancestors
Slavery never went away it just turned into modern day
We going insane searching for a way
Family crying and dying over heartbreak each and everyday
We struggle to deal with reality
Mass incarceration and police brutality
Young man eighteen years old with two life sentences
Never experienced life but he will never mention it
Locked up away from your loved ones for decades
Bald spots and grey hair in your high-top fade
You settle for state clothes and rawlings over high-tops jays
This modern day slavery what a phaze
Going insane trying to find a way out that endless maze
Lockdoor, shackles and metal chains
We going through endless pain
Nothing to lose, nothing to gain
We can’t win this undefeated game
Eight-digit SBI numbers they address us by like it’s our names
Lockdoor, shackles and metal chains
