My name is Raque Burkeholder. I am currently serving a life sentence for a crime I maintain I did not commit. I’ve been incarcerated since I was 19 years old. Today, I am 40. That is my situation, but it is not who I am. Who I am is someone who still believes deeply in people, in growth, and in love. I’m a proud father and uncle. I write children’s books. I’m an activist who speaks on the pain, injustice and unseen stressors that many people, both inside and outside these walls, experience every day. I’ve lived through loss, isolation, and hardship, but I’ve also learned how to keep moving forward and find purpose in the process.
