My name is Daniel Montano, I am a 52 year old Mexican American, born in East Los Angeles, and raised in prison, I’m joking, but having been in prison for 34 of my 52 years alive,  it sure does feel that way. As a passive communicator, creative writing was a blessing to me, it allowed me to express emotions that otherwise will go unexpressed. Creative writing has become an important tool on my journey of transformation, a journey that has me clean and sober since March 2019, and having earned a Bachelor’s degree in communication from Sacramento State University. Today, I give back by being a member of the peer literacy mentor program here at Folsom State Prison, where we mentor and tutor individuals who are trying to earn their GED. I appreciate the opportunity to share my creative writing with you, welcome to my journey. Thank you.
