I’m Kenneth West ,a artist and writer from Houston,thekennethwest.com.I’ve been incarcerated for the last 28 years,since I was 20 years old fighting a wrongful conviction for a crime I didn’t commit.But inspite of my adverse situation I refuse to give up or to become another lost soul in this institution. As I believe that its not about what happens to us in life but what we do with it. I entered prison an 8th grade dropout who had never attended a day of highschool,but in 2023 I got my Master’s in Humanities from UHCL. I have also written and self published 22 books,and become a multi-disciplinary artist working in both painting and sculpture. Like my writing,my art became another way for me to transcend my boundaries,shine light into the darkness and express myself without restrictions.
