What I Want the World to Know About Me
By Victor Wilder
I want the world to know that my name is Victor Allen Wilder Jr. R2768. I was born in Chicago IL., mother died when I was 5 years old, father died when I was 12. I was kicked out of my mother’s mother’s house at 15, sent to Mississippi at 15. Got locked up at 16 and sent to Mississippi State Penitentiary at 16, and been here ever since. Now 41. I want the world to know that Sometimes the Good die young and come to prison young. But it doesn’t mean that you’re a bad person. I just made a mistake that cost me half of my life. I want the world to know that prison isn’t the place to be. You have rights but you don’t. You can’t shower when you want. You can’t eat unless you have canteen if you want. Some places you can’t lay down and sleep when you want. It’s a lot that’s took from you when you get locked down. I want the world to know that you don’t have to Rob, Cheat, or Steal just to make it out there in the world, all you gotta be is willing to work or try to do better and you’ll Be Better. Indeed, I am an icon inside this prison. Everyone knows me. From being creative, positive, funny, loving, good hearted, kind and very loyal to those I call my friends. I don’t want the world to know too much about me. Just enough to say Victor Wilder wasn’t the Bad Boy the State or others tried to make me be. My teacher asked me to write 15 pages. I don’t have 15 pages of things to say. I just want the world to know that I’m a Good Person that made a mistake and will do and be better than before if given that chance. That’s all I gotta say.
