Anxiety
By Heather McKee
Galaxies swirl inside me
Cold constellations of chaos
in the vast void between
molten planets
thoughts collide, form
asteroid belts dense and dangerous
black hole consumes my blood
ravenous, seeking stray
illumination
spasmodic satellites spin
transmitted signals
stutter in celestial silence
“What if…” “What if….” “What if….”
Papercuts
By Heather McKee
I worship at the altar of your mind
dreams and sorrows my offered prayers
you swallow my secrets as if
they were your own and turn
them sacred
my soul claws and tears from my skin
to commune with you
my shelter for heart
aches that don’t have a home
my heart throws a motherfuckin’ party
at the sacrifice of your words, they wrap
around me, sweet paper cut pain
This poem samples Chris Stapleton (Fire Away) and Poet Justin Rivillos Monson (Notes For if I Fade Away Missing Me)
