You wouldn’t Think That By Just Looking At Me
By Felipe Alvarado

I am a picture of life starting off wrong
I have been fighting death since my first breath
Just look at my body it is a road map of pain
You wouldn’t think that by just looking at me
I have been living a life of lies
I am a father without wisdom
I am more than just an alcoholic
You wouldn’t think that by just looking at me
I am not just a violent offender
I am more then a triple O.G.
I am more than just the black sheep of my family
You wouldn’t think that by just looking at me
I am a Human Being searching for love
Where love doesn’t exist behind these Barbwires
I am a Homosexual that everyday wants to kill myself because I am all alone
I am so lonely in a community that doesn’t even appreciate my value as a Human Being
You wouldn’t think that by just looking at me.

The Other Man
By Felipe Alvarado

I feel this other man always watching me.
This other man constantly is questioning every step I take.
This other man is always trying to make me second guess my every thought.
This other man is always talking about my past.
This other man never sees value in me as a Human Being.
But I know who does see value in me.
That other man is Jesus Christ My Lord and Savior.
That other man Jesus has provided me with so many tools.
With these tools I know I am a Overcomer, Human Being, and Sober just for today.
I know now every setback is a setup for a brighter future.
I know I am intelligent, strong, and a man living with a purpose.
I know just for today, in this moment, all is well.
I am merely going to pray that this other man who doesn’t see value in me as a Human Being. Hopefully one day he will at least see value within himself.
Because, just for today I am sober and all is well.
