Dear Mama
By Lorenzo Saylor

I know that we don’t talk much,
So, I have to put my pain in words.
Because living life on the edge,
Makes it hard to keep in touch.
A mama of three minus one
Living life in the dark,
Don’t bring no sunlight.
Shit can get tough.
Reminiscing over a couple of drinks,
A few tears, and some laughs,
Would get us through the night.
Crying inside, every piece of pain
I scribble in this dear letter.
Although I gave my heart to the streets
Rather than God,
What a life I chose.
How can I forgive myself,
Let alone, let the Lord forgive me.
Finding it hard to move on sometimes.
Trying to forget about
What forgot about me.
Knowing my only fear is that
I get old and die in this cold place.
Time never stops,
But it always changes,
Who are we without the people we love.
Be careful who you share your heart with,
But you can’t help who you love.
We all know a broken heart.
Will take your smile.
No matter what we go through,
Being alone ain’t the way the story ends…

My Friend
By Lorenzo Saylor

You was my friend when I was
Knee deep in the streets /

You was my friend all in when
I could make ends meet /

My goals your dreams / I thought
We was a team /

Although we lost a few day ones
To that sad music /

You know what I’m talking about
China made chemicals /

What happened to that round table shit /

Out of town ??? so we could
Be a part of the bigger picture /

Why we couldn’t do it together /
Why you needed to be number one

Look where it got us / first class tickets
Down under /

Realities was too much / the stories of loyalty
Was just a myth /

It was all love until the commonwealth
Put the cuffs in the mix
