Double Standards Lower the Bar
By Brian Fuller
As important as I feel our correspondence is, there will be times that I must simply shoot from the hip. No prepared statements could even be enough to cover all the trouble and turmoil our society is in. What we must cling to now, are those precious…” truths that we hold to be self-evident…”; the basis upon which our great nation was founded.
Law and order are decaying right in front of our eyes. When good people do nothing, evil abounds. I may not be a lawyer but there is will plenty of good in me. Together we will find those among us with the knowledge and authority to fight back against what seems to be monumental opposition. The rest of us still hear that incredible responsibility to tell the truth exactly as we see it. Even with all of its raw, unfiltered, ugly reality.
I was so proud of the words of Utah’s governor chose! And I’m paraphrasing here, out of the utmost respect: […there was no violence, burning cars, or looting. Instead, the people of Utah turned to prayer…]. He also spoke of the decisive actions of consummate professionals. Yes, faith without works is dead. So let us never underestimate the magnificent power of a movement based on our collective foundations of deeply held beliefs.
We’re coming up on the 250th anniversary of that beautiful line in the sand which indeed set us apart from lesser nations. Our founding fathers knew that knowledge is powerful. So much so, that they even included it in our beloved United States Constitution: (Article 1, Section 8, Clause 8 – refers to…” the progress of science and useful arts”…). I can think of no more useful art, than adherence to the rule of law and the integrity which we apply to upholding our values.
Regardless of whether Texas and other misguided regimes choose to follow these sacred principles, “We the people” will hold ourselves accountable to higher standards. Because, as we all know, double standards lower the bar for everyone. It will take people much smarter than I, to heal this nation’s infirmities. So, I will leave you with their words of wisdom.
“When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty.” – (Thomas Jefferson)
“To love someone deeply gives you strength. Being loved by someone deeply gives you courage.” – (Lao Tzu)
It’s high time we find that courage and strength to love America and each other as deeply as we deserve to be loved.
