Deep In My Heart
By Cletus Rivera

When you look into me
See the intimacy
Infinitely present
Never will a shred fade
With the passing of days
For in my heart it stays
Shining like a beacon
Reaching every fabric
Of my inner being
A love to believe in
When all else seems absent
This bond is heaven sent
Meant to be unbroken
It’s woven in our genes
And shown in your faces
The positive traces
Of me that equal you
The future I love

The Deepest Cut
By Cletus Rivera

Do you feel the pain
Reverberate through your heart?
Are silent emotions quaking through your soul?
Does it crush you on the inside
Although your face is composed?
Is your mask of subtlety
Yet you’re ready to implode?
How can you proceed
With a hole that continues to grow?
I know
Let the emotions overflow.
Explode!
Spew toxic barbs, hit hard.
Aim precisely at the spot
That doesn’t show.
Who cares
If you’re thought as shallow
When it unfolds.
An arctic blast biting
As if you’re at the pole…
“Brrr,” cold.
Or you can withhold
Choosing to not let one know
Just how deep you’re cut.
Feel the imaginary tears flow.
Silently tell yourself
“I knew you didn’t love me much.”
